I was a little bit surprised by the number of well known authors who are born in February. Is there something about being born into short days and cold nights that turns you into the creative personality required for writing great books? Possibly - or maybe I'm just getting a bit better with my searches for these things.
Popular American authors in particular seem to be born in February. Award winning authors like Alice Walker born on February 6th, Amy Tan (February 19th) and John Steinbeck (Feb 27th). Wildly popular American authors like John Grisham (February 8th), Elizabeth George (yup, she's American even though her books have great British settings - February 26) and Richard North Patterson (February 22nd). Actually, looking at the impressive list of authors born in the month of February, there is even a single day in particular that stands out - February 19th. Perhaps there is some astrological explanation for this one but the list of impressive authors born that day includes Laurell K. Hamilton, Jonathan Lethem and Carson McCullers (not to mention Any Tan who we already named above).
Why not curl up with one of these titles - all first novels - and celebrate an author birthday in February?
