April Author Birthdays

Celebrate an author’s birthday by reading something they've written. Here’s a few authors who were born in the month of April.

Maya Angelou: it seems only right that this respected American poet was born on April 4th (at the beginning of National Poetry Month). Angelou, a favourite of Oprah Winfrey, has also penned five volumes of memoirs, beginning with I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.

Paul Theroux: another American author of The Mosquito Coast and others (including fiction and travel memoirs), celebrates his birthday on April 10th.

Ngaio Marsh: This New Zealand born writer is often mentioned in the same breath as Agatha Christie in when you talk about classic mystery authors. Born on April 23rd 1895, Marsh passed away in 1982, but her books remain popular.

Robert Sawyer: Canadian author of award winning Science Fiction novels. Born April 29th 1960, but probably looking forward to April 14th a little more keenly (it’s the date his latest novel Wake is released).
