Upcoming Movies Based on Books


If you want to start a cinema-inspired reading list, check out this list of the movies based on books that are coming out this and next year. Be the first to say that the book was better!

Like The Giver, this one has an all-star cast to draw you in, including Jennifer Aniston, Tim Robbins, and Isla Fisher”.

This Is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper

“The comedy follows the dysfunctional Foxman clan as they mourn the death and sit shiva for the family's patriarch. Hilarity, as it's wont to do, ensues. The film is in theaters on September 12, 2014. As you read, you'll easily imagine Adam Driver, Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, and others fitting into their roles”.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flinn


“Ben Affleck is starring in an adaptation of Gillian Flynn's dark bestseller about a husband looking for his missing wife, with a cast that includes Rosamund Pike and Neil Patrick Harris. Gone Girl comes out in October 2014”.

Wild by Cheryl Strayed

Inherent Vice by Thomas Pychon

“Thomas Pynchon's 1970-set stoner-noir thriller is getting the movie treatment from Paul Thomas Anderson, with a cast including Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon and Benicio Del Toro. Look for it in December 2014”.

Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky

Based on the novel that follows a romance between a French woman and a German soldier in Nazi-occupied France, was finally published 60 years after author Irène Némirovsky died in Auschwitz. This adaptation stars Michelle Williams and Matthias Schoenaerts”.

Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy

“Thomas Hardy's classic novel is getting a gorgeous new adaptation starring Carey Mulligan as Bathsheba Everdeen, with her three love interests played by Michael Sheen, Tom Sturridge and Matthias Schoenaerts. Look for it in May 2015”.

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
